2011 Predictions

The New Year is just around the corner and 2011 predictions are bound to cause a stir. After decorating the Christmas tree and relaxing with a festive glass of eggnog flavored with our favorite spirit, we pondered the unbelievable events of 2010.

Even more implausible are our 2011 predictions during the "Year of the Rabbit..."

• The seventy-one year old Bugs Bunny will be committed to the Wild Hare sanitarium after beheading Elmer Fudd. Staff members will constantly complain when Bugs sneaks up on them and mutters, "Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits."
• Korea Airlines and Israeli airline El AL will merge into KAL EL (the Superman airlines). The Man of Steel is depicted "in flight" across the fuselages and all the stewardesses wear "Lois Lane" name cards, to ease confusion (according to EL AL security).
• North Korea, not to be undone, will counter with its own airline. To become popularly known as "Lil Kim Airlines," the jet fleet will tout illustrations of Kim Jong-Il (dressed in a cape and sprouting his own wings) on the fuselages.
• The Obama administration will announce the advent of a portable money printing machine (the PMPM-1000000) that will print one million dollar bills. The first unit is slated for installation in the White House, "Green Room." Studies have shown that the new machine will save the Treasury Department millions.
• In an unprecedented move, the White House will create the Department of Information. Their first order of business will be to remove the term "Global Warning" from the English language and replace it with "Bad Weather."
• The New York Yankees will offer President Obama a seven year twenty-one million dollar contract (to commence January 13, 2013). The "Bronzed Bomber's" job will be to improve the Yankee's tarnished image by having players "reach out to America" and tax citizen's willingness for change.
• Wiki Leaks founder Julian Assange will host "Saturday Night Live" (SNL). During hilarious skits the popular globetrotting hacker will reveal KFC's secret fried chicken recipe and the launch codes for the Strategic Air Command's missile defense system.
• NBC, in desperate ratings quest, will announce that reality TV beauty Kim Kardashian will star as Scarlett O'Hara in a TV miniseries remake of "Gone With The Wind," co-starring Pierce Brosnan as Rhett Butler. A surprise addition to the cast is Lady Gaga to play the Atlanta Madam, Belle Watling.
• In a shocking announcement, TV network news media pundits (Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Bill O'Reilly, et al.) will admit that their news programs are "just entertainment" at a national media town hall meeting. Their retort to audience catcalls will be: "We thought you already knew."
• Perhaps the most disturbing of the 2011 predictions will come from the medical community. The American Medical Association (AMA) will make a major announcement that will send shock waves around the world. 3-D, the motion picture rage, will be found to have caused the visual impairment known as strabismus (cross-eyes) in over a million movie goers worldwide!
• Members of the scientific community will present irrefutable proof that UFO's do exist during Geraldo Rivera's "Search for UFOs" Fox Special. Unfortunately, the spectacular will be pre-empted by breaking news-the birth of (future Scarlett O'Hara) Kim Kardashian's offspring.
• In late 2011, China will make the startling announcement that it has taken over the continent of Africa (renamed Chinafrica). Beijing announces that where applicable, Chinese restaurants in third world countries will serve as embassies until proper structures are constructed.

Admittedly, these 2011 predictions are off the current radar screens. That is precisely why they will be so earth-shaking when revealed during the coming year. It should be noted that attempts were made to contact international psychics on the level of Edgar Cayce, Betty White, and Nostradamus, but their lack of response only solidified the importance of our 2011 predictions (why would they respond to predictions that are bound to overshadow their own?).

December Astrology With the Winter Solstice and a Lunar Eclipse

The art and science of astrology is an amazing mirror for our individual journey as well as the collective. Following astrology is a way to inquire deeply into your human nature and your evolutionary process. Who are you and where are you in your life? Mars Marches into Capricorn on Dec 7

Mars the warrior god has his center stage this month with lots of action and high tides of energy. Mars represents our life force energy, our decisiveness, application of will and focus. He symbolizes our capacity for endurance in the face of challenge with strength and courage. He corresponds to our inner capacity of being a hero and inspires us to apply ourselves courageously.

And we could say especially this month we have to face a variety of obstacles. All the action seems to be happening in Capricorn with a Mars conjunction with retrograde Mercury, Pluto and the North Node. Also there is a square of Mars to Uranus Dec 3 as well as to Saturn Dec 29. Even without going into detail this month seems to be loaded with friction or affliction with Mars energy which could turn into hostile or even violent actions or accidents. This can play out for us individually or on a bigger more global scale.

Mars Conjuncts North Node and Pluto in Capricorn Dec 11- 13

You want to prepare yourself mentally by focusing on the higher possibilities and use the potentially volatile energy of Mars like a surfer is using the waves here in Hawaii. A surfer doesn't fight the flow of the wave but gets intuitively acquainted with the specific nature and form of the particular wave and then rides it with the full exhilaration of the moment enjoying every bit of it.

Pluto adds a touch of deep intensity to the Martian energy and with the North Node it points us towards deeper reality of life and death, the realization of the preciousness of every moment in life and where we really want to go with it. It is a wake up call to your deep inner truth of being that eternal soul, spirit incarnated into a human body and experience. You will be motivated to take charge and responsibility of your life no matter what, in the way you can. And you might learn to surrender to life in the areas and experiences you don't have any real control over. And that might be the most challenging process imaginable.

Mercury in Capricorn Goes Retrograde Dec 10- 30

Again we are facing Mercury retrograde which is usually not our most favorable time of the year. We are being challenged with communications going awry, computers, cars and electrical devices acting up, confusion and the possibility of misunderstandings and things just not going the way we would have expected. At least we are having a good excuse. But it is also a good time to go back and deal with unfinished projects and thoughts especially while Mercury is still in Capricorn. When he steps back into Sagittarius on Dec 18 we will feel a little more energy moving and inspiration for action.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Dec 21 in the End of Gemini Squared by Uranus

Lunar Eclipses interrupt the magnetic flow between our planet, the Sun and Moon. They are huge opportunities for transformation as the old energetic networks dissolve and reload to a new level of expediency. Gemini is the sign which is concerned with anything related to communication, small travels, writing, teaching, speaking, ideas and knowledge. Uranus carries the spark of the unexpected as well the invitation to individuate and grow beyond the confines of the socially agreed upon reality. Uranus is the rebel and leader of a new age with new rules and hopefully better, more humane ways to support each other in like-minded groups and visions.

Winter Solstice Dec 21 with the Sun Entering Capricorn Next Day

Winter is here. It is cold and dark out there, we might like to stay home and get cozy with a blanket, a cup of tea and a good book or movie in the evening. Have you ever seen the movie March of the Penguins? In the Antarctic, the harshest place on earth life survives and the moment when the Sun comes back over the horizon after the long, extremely cold winter is truly magical. It is a touching and heart opening movie. You can get it on Netflix if you are on that program.

We are heading into that darkest coldest part of the year and our inner soul orientation is accordingly inwards. We need more physical comforts like warm food and beverages, enjoy coming together with friends, snuggling up with each other. When I watch my German TV with my girl friend we sit under one big blanket on the sofa.

Capricorn is the sign of that inner work and dimension focusing on what is truly important to us and act accordingly. We take responsibility, work harder and just do what we can. Saturn and Capricorn are associated with the "Great Work" which we have signed up to do, which costs a lot of effort, time and hard work. With all the action in Capricorn this month this is what is in alignment with the energy.

Quick Facts About Elves

Some of the most important mythical creatures are elves. They will normally appear as some peaceful jolly and helpful creatures, much unlike trolls and ogres. Ask any child about Christmas Elves, and he will start by mentioning Santa Claus and his team of Elves unpacking toys. There are many types of elves and here are some quick facts about them.

1) Just the same as trolls, Elves first came from Norse mythology. At their genesis, Elves were intended to be divine creatures who possessed magical abilities. They were later classed into good and evil elves. Other modern mythologies still have elves featuring prominently, including the Icelandic, Germanic and Scandinavian.

2) Up to recently, they will be associated more with folk stories and have a baby-face look, characterized with no facial hair at all. They mostly live in the wild, under rocks, hills and around wells.

The elves are normally small bodies creatures, each never seeming to grow past a certain age. They are normally playful and get into mischief more often than not.

3) In USA, the Elves are mostly associated with Santa Claus, meaning they feature a lot around Christmas as Santa"s helpers in making toys. They crush at the North Pole and often wear red and green clothing.

In facial sense, the elves have carrot like noses ad long ears. They wear hats too. You never see an animation of Santa without the Elves.

4) Other Fantasy Elves that you may know of are in those like The Hobbit and the movie, Lord of the Rings. The role-playing game that features the well is Dungeons and Dragons. They are smart and picturesque creatures but physically weak.

5) Normally, you would not look at Christmas Elves as elfish at all. In fact apart from Elfin and Elven the Elves, which appear in the advertisements of Keebler Cookies, you would not consider Elves as "creatures".

Christmas Story - Facts About The Birth Of Christ

Christmas is more than just holidays, Father Christmas and presents. To celebrate and enjoy the season, one should remember its origins because the real Christmas story is found in the Holy Bible with the Birth of Jesus Christ. The Child, Born that night over two thousand years ago, is the Light of the World, King of Kings and the Son of God.

The Christmas Story, of Angels and Mary, a young Jewish girl from Galilee who gave Birth to a King in a humble stable, the simple, hard-working shepherds who came to adore Jesus, the bright Star of Bethlehem and the Wise Men who followed it bearing gifts makes the festive season special because the Birth was a miracle and, it gave the world a Savior.

The Birth of Jesus begins with a reference to Caesar Augustus, Emperor of the powerful, Roman Empire and, of Jesus, a Jewish, Baby Boy Born into poverty. The contrast couldn't be greater.

"And so it came to pass in those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem, the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went to register with Mary who also, was a descendent of King David and of the tribe of Judah. Mary was expecting a Child. While there, the time came for the Baby to be Born."

The joyous event of the Birth of Jesus was announced by an Angel to lowly shepherds accompanied by Angelic praise. The bright Star of Bethlehem revealed the Birth to the Gentile (non-Jewish), Wise Men who came to bow and worship the newborn King. The Gentiles later, would make up most of the Christian world because, from that foundation, Christianity grew, sending off branches in many directions from ancient Jerusalem.

God chose for His Son to be born in a humble stable, and placed in an animal feeding-trough for a Crib surrounded by farm animals. Jesus came into this world in humility, simplicity and in poverty to identify with the poor, and the down-trodden. And, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is a wonderful example of humility, courage, faith and willingness to do God's Will.

That humble stable was filled with the Presence of God. Through His Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior, God gave us a way to inherit the Heavenly, Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, taught people to love God, to love their neighbor and fellow-man, to treat other people as they themselves wish to be treated. He preached equality, care for the weak and needy, He fought sin, yet He did not despise sinful people. He was willing to forgive and to heal and He taught that repentance and faith could save people. The Apostles and other early Christians went everywhere carrying the Message of Jesus and the Word of God to all continents and all peoples.

The Wise Men remind us that Christmas is a time for giving. It is a time for peace and goodwill to all as we look forward to the joy of the season. And, Christmas Day is marked by church services and the traditional, Christmas table spread out before us where we can all sit down together with the family to enjoy a Christmas feast that brings joy and happiness to every heart.

The Christmas Story also, has its very own traditional pageantry, beautiful old customs and feasting making everything more cheerful and beautiful that brings out the best in all of us. For many children around the world, it is a time for gifts when Father Christmas arrives on a sleigh pulled by reindeer in the early hours of Christmas morning placing presents in stockings, by their beds or in front of the family Christmas tree.

And, the spirit of Christmas embodies many wonderful qualities that can be felt and seen everywhere throughout the world. Most places of work will hold Christmas parties, homes, shops, business offices, streets and town centers are decorated with Nativity scenes, Christmas trees and bright, colored lights. And, shopping centers become busier with people buying gifts as they play the traditional Christmas Carols throughout the day, while people will often sing them out in the streets to help raise money for charities.

One of the most famous Christmas Carols of all time, Silent Night is a song that is beautiful and yet, so powerful, it touches people with its simple Christian message of heavenly peace. Written by Father Joseph Mohr in 1816 its music was added by choir director, Franz Xavier Gruber in 1818.

In the small, alpine, village church of Saint Nicholas in Oberndorf, Austria, this timeless classic was heard for the first time as Father, Joseph Mohr and Franz Xavier Gruber, accompanied by the choir and a guitar, sang "Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht! (Silent Night, Holy Night). From here, Silent Night went on to have such an impact around the world, it even caused a World War One battle to temporarily cease, as British and German soldiers sang of heavenly peace from their trenches on Christmas Eve.

Yule Sabbat

Yule or the Winter Solstice is scientifically based on the standing still position of the Sun; this has been practiced for over 10,000 years by many cultures (especially Native Americans, Spanish and Mexican Indians) around the globe with ceremonies and festivals over 12 days). Yule is a kind of spiritual, psychic, and physiological renewal of mind, body, and soul involving the 4 elements (Earth or North, Air or East, Fire or South, and Water or West) and the 5th element being the Spirit Guide at the top of a right side up pentacle and pentagram (which are mathematically based on geometry). The winter solstice is unique among days of the year--the shortest day and the longest night. Darkness rules but only briefly; from now until the summer solstice, the nights will grow shorter and the days longer even in Alaska.

The Winter Solstice's turning point was carefully monitored in many ancient cultures. The stones in the circle at Stonehenge were aligned to ascertain the dates of midsummer and midwinter, as well as the positions of the moon throughout the year. Even older than Stonehenge is the tumulus at Newgrange in the Boyne River Valley in Ireland. It was built in approximately 4500 B.C.E. On the morning of the winter solstice, a shaft of sunlight enters the mound, travels down a stone corridor, and illuminates the spiral designs on the back wall of the cave.

Yule is one of four Lesser Pagan Sabbats (with the religious festivals or holidays being Ostara, Midsummer or Litha, and Mabon) within the symbolically and constantly turning wheel of the year. Yule has long been celebrated as the rebirth of the sun (the Sun God Ra/Re), of sunlight, and the continual existence of life itself. According to Celtic folklore, the Oak King and the Holly King represent the two sides of the Greenman or the Horned God (Cernunnos); the Oak King oversees the lighter part of the year (at Litha) while the Holly King oversees the darker part of the year at Yule.

In the northern hemisphere, Yule is generally celebrated on or around December 21st depending upon the day of arrival of the full moon prior to this Sabbat. Yule festivals, ceremonies, and rituals can consist of a simple solitary prayer all the way through an elaborate social and spiritual gathering of men, women, and children. Depending upon their spiritual path, some folks observe Yule for 1 day or from 3, 7, or up to 12 days.

Santa Claus's Past - The Surprising History of Saint Nicholas

Long ago, during the eighth and ninth centuries in Britain and Ireland, people observed the time of year that is today know as the Christmas season. Back then however, there was nothing fun or pleasant about that time. These Celts believed that with the shortened span of daylight during winter months, the sun was dying away. Since they believed that malevolent spirits haunted the darkness, it was feared that the demons would sicken or kill anyone who was wicked or sinful. Thus, at this time of year everyone suddenly became kind and generous to the needy and gift giving was widespread. The Celts hoped that their gods were seeing their generosity and would spare their lives.

Unsurprisingly therefore, when, in the ninth and tenth centuries, missionaries arrived in the area, they found it nearly impossible to make people rethink the fearful perspective they had on Yule. So, instead of completely banishing the idea, the missionaries decided to alter the existing generosity of the season to reflect a celebration of the birthday of an old saint named Nicholas.

Old Saint Nicholas lived in Myra in the fourth century and was known to be very generous and jolly. Since his birthday was December 6, in the heart of the Yule season, he was therefore qualified for the role. Gradually, the people began to accept this as the reason for Yuletide generosity.

As the decades passed, the prospect of the holiday season became more cheery. Eventually December 6 became a holiday synonymous with public revelry, feasting and drunkenness en mass. During this season of frenzied festivities any and all crimes were not only expected but were accepted and overlooked as part of the fun. It was a time when you could literally get away with murder.

Later, a modern form of the old Saint was introduced to revive the spirituality of the holiday. He was Sinterklaas, the Scandinavian predecessor to today's American Santa Claus. He wore a white priest's robe with a long red cape and had a bishop's hat. He carried a book containing the names of all the children, good or bad, and crook with strange designs worked into the hook. His assistant, Black Pete, the predecessor of the American elves, was said to be and enslaved demon that Sinterklaas captured on a visit to the underworld. Parents used the scary duo to frighten their children into good behavior. Children were told all the good children would receive candy from him. However, if they were naughty, Black Pete would give them a thorough switching before stuffing them into his sack and carrying them off to the underworld.

In the late 16th century, a massive wave of immigrants from Holland and the Netherlands brought the idea of Sinterklaas to America. At this time the Feast of Sinterklaas was still observed on December 6th. The old ideas of Black Pete faded as Sinterklaas became a friendlier character. Now he was said to deliver sweets to the good children but to the naughty a long switch for the parents' use. In 1821, a poem in the "Children's Friend" changed the way this mythological character was seen. In the poem was introduced a didactic old man who rode a sleigh and dropped presents through chimneys.

In 1823 Clement C Moore wrote a poem that shaped the image of Santa Claus today. His poem, popularly known as "The Night Before Christmas", stated that:

"He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,"
and: "He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf"
and: "the beard of his chin was as white as the snow."

The descriptions in this poem have been used in depictions of Claus worldwide ever since.

Today, Santa Claus is the most associated fictional character with the Christmas season. This character, who evolved from a blend of Christianity, Paganism, and Catholicism, is an integral part of Christmas for children the world over. The next time you see a mall Santa, think about how this character began as fierce ancient god.

The Transformation of St Nicholas Into Santa Claus

Have you ever stopped to ponder how a man who was Bishop of Myra (Turkey) in the 4th century became our well-loved annual gift giver, Santa Claus? Most of us never stop to wonder how this came about.

St. Nicholas was a man born into a wealthy family, but who felt called to the church. He felt it was his responsibility to use his fortune to help out where needed. The best known story of St. Nicholas is this:

There was a poor man in his village who was the father of three girls. The man was too poor to provide any of them with a dowry, and so they could not marry. One evening St. Nicholas was passing by their window and heard the girls crying and lamenting the situation. He went home and got 3 bags of gold which he threw in the window of the girls' home. (Some say that at least one bag ended up in a stocking that had been hung over the mantle to dry.) Thus St. Nicholas became established as a gift giver.

Another story is that 3 young boys were traveling to visit St. Nicholas and were murdered by an evil innkeeper along the way. The murderer placed the boys' bodies in salt barrels (for preserving meat). Bishop Nicholas went looking for them, and miraculously revived the boys when he found them. In this miracle, Nicholas becomes a kind of guardian angel to children.

He is known as the patron saint of sailors and travelers too. While on board a ship during a storm, St. Nicholas prayed and immediately the waters stilled. Perhaps that is why he does so much traveling himself, and why he has no fear about flying in an open sleigh so far above the Earth!

He has been a much loved saint from the time of his death in 347 up until modern times. The Dutch and German protestants who came to America in the 1600's could not give him up. Their name for Saint Nicholas was Sinter Klaas. "Sinter" for Saint and "Klaas" a shortened nickname for Nicholas. Over time, the pronunciation and spelling in the United States changed from Sinter Klaas to Santa Claus.

Before the early 1800's, St.Nick left gifts for children on the eve of his own Saints Day, December 6th. Soon that merged into a Christmas tradition. It may have been because Protestants do not celebrate Saints Days, but do celebrate Christmas (Christ's Mass). It seems to be Clement C. Moore's poem, "The Night Before Christmas" that solidified the date of Christmas Eve as Santa's yearly visit.
