Mary, Lazarus's Sister, Former Daughter of Sin

John 11:1-2 (New King James Version)
1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

We all now the passage very well of the woman that was a sinner and who washed Jesus feet with her tears and anointed them with her perfume after drying the Lord's feet with her hair. WE just might not have known she was Martha's sister and a person that was very close to the Lord in the future of the anointing with perfume in the passage below.
Luke 7:36-50 (New King James Version)

36 Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee's house, and sat down to eat. 37 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, 38 and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, "This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner."

40 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." So he said, "Teacher, say it." 41 "There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?" 43 Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have rightly judged." 44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45 You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little." 48 Then He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." 49 And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?" 50 Then He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

I have read the New testament on a number of occasions and had never seen this verse above saying that Mary of Bethany was indeed this sinner who washed Jesus feet. I imagine that is why Lazarus loved Jesus so much bringing his sinning sister back to him.

I personally believe that this sinning Mary was also Mary Magdalene and that Mary Magdalene was Lazarus's sister as well as the sister of Martha although I cannot prove that by scripture.

In matters of the Bible I am just a untrained novice but I am so happy to have discovered this verse in the scriptures. It shows me that I a sinner can be loved by God just as much and anyone else. I always loved the story of Mary and Martha. I have always been in the front seat and attending every meeting an apostle teaches when he comes to town. I was the Mary not helping with the food but hanging on every one of Jesus' words.

Which are you?

Are you a Martha or a Mary or a bit of both?

Are you the sinning woman that cried and dried the Saviours feet wit her hair?

How does knowing this was Mary sit with you?

Should it change your opinion?

I have been always in love with the Mary Magdalene of the Bible. A woman that travelled with Jesus who supported him out of her means. What a privilege to fund the Messiah and his work?

And Mary Magdalene it is recorded in scripture that seven demons were cast out of her. I wonder did Jesus set her free as she washed his feet? Was it a silent deliverance?

Mary, Martha's sister later poured oil on Jesus head shortly before his death and once again used ointment or perfume. This time Judas complained and said that the perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus responded that the poor would always be here, but this lady and what she did will be talked about everywhere the gospel was preached.

I conclude saying Mary Magdalene repented in tears, then anointed Jesus feet, returned home to her family and then at a later stage joined him on the road until one day she anointed his head once again. I say it was this Mary that the world should know about, a very pretty Mary, a Mary I have met many times in the company of Jesus in visions.

May you be blessed
