The Falling Birds Of Europe - Even More Unanswered Questions

With all the fuss and fandangle going on about the death of nearly 6000 Dixie red wing blackbirds - all apparently dead from blunt trauma to the breast and dead before they hit the ground, I had a trawl around to see if there was any other stuff relating to bird deaths in other States, but drew a blank.

What I did drop on though was a rich seam of information showing that not only had hundreds of birds dropping from the sky happened here in the past (1896), at one of the same spots exactly (Baton Rouge), but also that it had happened across in Europe. And it's still happening.

England

On the 10th March 2010, in the quiet little village of Coxley, Somerset, England, Julie Knight, a 53 year old homemaker, came home to find what she called "Something out of a horror film".

Starlings began to fall from the sky into her front garden. Nearly a hundred of them, and the greater majority lifeless before they hit the ground. She found blood oozing from their beaks, and their claws curled up beneath them. All had either shattered beaks or broken wings, and all died of blunt force trauma with the exception of 6 which were found alive but in a distressed state before being taken away for toxicology tests (results still awaited 9 months later).

Onlookers reported hearing a 'loud whooshing sound' immediately before the first birds began to fall. British UFO sites went into overdrive with the statement by a local animal expert that they had appeared to have died after hitting what must have been an invisible object above the village.

A spokesman for the British RSPCA (their animal cruelty organisation) put forward the reason for the incident was that most probably a bird of prey had swooped on the starlings and driven them into the ground.

That must have been one big bird of prey if the whooshing sound everyone heard was true. It must have been a pretty accurate swoop too.

Mrs Knights front garden is only 12ft by 10ft, and every bird landed inside it.

Once again, no mention in any media about the possible threat from Avian flu, the deathly disease that supposedly threatened everyone on the planet in 2004/2005. The dead birds were picked up and taken away by unprotected animal welfare workers who were barehanded and weren't even wearing cotton mouth masks.

Sweden

On the day after we witnessed those 500 birds falling from the sky outside Baton Rouge, the village of Falkoeping in southern Sweden had its own mini event.

One of it's residents, Drilon Hulaj was driving home late on the evening of the 5th January when he saw the road littered with over 100 dead Jackdaws, On inspection all were found to be dead, and some appeared to have been struck by a vehicle once on the ground.

Amazingly enough, their 'experts' must have been on the phone to ours over here in the States because their deaths were put down to being frightened by fireworks and then flying into each other in the dark.

Yeah. Right. More birds bumping into each other. This New Years Eve London apparently had the biggest fireworks display ever seen in the capital. And no dead birds. Amazing.

Italy

On the 2nd Jan 2011 reports started to come in to Italy's forestry commission of large numbers of turtle doves being found dead in and around the small town of Faenza, near Ravenna.

Some were found on an industrial estate outside the town, but the majority were found on the road and pavement. A number were found still on or near their perch, and photo's in the local press show them seemingly asleep and undistressed. At the time of writing this, over 1000 of them have been found, along with a few wood and feral pigeons.

No cause of death is apparent, except for all of them having a blue tinge to their beaks which is normally a significant symptom of Hypoxia, or oxygen starvation. When playing around with the Hypoxia possibility, be aware that house sparrows have to fly a above 19000 feet before they suffer from it, and geese have been seen flying over the Himalayas. And what about those found perched in trees 30 feet up? Hmm. Juries still out for me I'm afraid.

Toxicology tests are being carried out, and you will be the first to know when the results are in.

So it's not just us here in the U.S. having these major incidents, it's Europe also, and now we are being told that these mass death things have always happened, and it's just because we now have more access to media outlets that they are coming to prominence both nationally and internationally.

Oh Really?

What do you think?

Keep watching the skies folks, keep watching the skies.

Jeff is a keen researcher of the strange, mysterious and odd. To his knowledge he has never been abducted by aliens, nor has he ever seen Sasquatch in his headlights. But has seen some other pretty weird stuff though. There's enough mystery going on out there for all of us.

We just have to keep looking for it.
